Breaking News: There is Internet access in the middle of nowhere!

I want my money back. No, I don’t. This “middle of nowhere” is gorgeous!

But I guess true JOMO is out of the question now. Like it or not, this thing that tethers us to each other’s gadgets, our pocket heaven & hell, seems to be under my skin, even in the middle of nowhere.

So here I am,

happy tired after a long day

spent among granite teeth

disheveled green hairdos

and burnt pine fingers

under a bright blue tent. 

Yet even now 

a ghost of ink remains 

stubbornly haunting reality; 

faded, still somehow tethered

to the page and bleeding.

Almost out of reach, 

I can just catch those

lingering shadows.

It’s easier

to make believe,

say it’s an illusion;

darkness reflected

by a broken mirror.

But granite is truth,

jagged, unvarnished, 

and I cannot unsee

what the sky made true: 

two harriers soaring, 

then free-falling,

tethered only 

by their claws.
