GREAT WHITE [NOIR POETRY 365]
GREAT WHITE
Let us not be two sharks
circling each other’s waters,
sensing blood on the page,
the dark whirlpool within
demanding a drowning
we never truly wanted.
Go back.
Go home.
Drench your fingertips in sunlight.
Avoid combing the sands
for that one broken shell;
your own whispering ghost.
Ignore any fin-like sails
against the sunset.
It is not a sign.
Or a siren calling.
Just another great white
on its way to nowhere.
. . .
