A PROLOGUE TO ◼️◼️◼️◼️◼️ WAR
[REDACTED]
▪️We're all strangers in this strange land.
▪️The ◼️◼️◼️◼️ were here first, but even they came from somewhere else. In their lore, they talk of falling from the stars into a black sand desert. No one knows where that desert is anymore. If we ever find it and start digging, I'm sure we'll uncover what's left of their ships.
▪️The ◼️◼️◼️◼️◼️ came later. They didn't use any ships, just a portal between their dimension and this one. “Just” is my idea of a joke. The fact that these people were able to simply poke a hole between two dimensions and use it to relocate from a dying planet should tell you everything about their technical capabilities – and how they view other “less evolved” species. That includes people like you and me.
▪️Humans descended on this planet a few centuries ago and have managed to thrive on the coast of the main continent. By “humans,” I mean ◼️◼️◼️◼️ ◼️◼️◼️◼️◼️◼️◼️ employees, contractors, and their families. The corporation has built three huge seaports, mainly because it's less expensive to put shuttles down on water. There's a massive ◼️◼️◼️◼️ ◼️◼️◼️◼️◼️◼️◼️ hub orbiting the planet. That's where all the action takes place.
▪️The first ◼️◼️◼️◼️ ◼️◼️◼️◼️◼️◼️◼️ land station was created as a backup in case things went awry on the orbital hub and people had to leave. They sold it as proof of how much they valued their employees. But the board had already learned from previous endeavors that employee retention is better when they have families. That was the actual purpose of that first land station. And to breed new employees – people whose only chance of survival would be to work for ◼️◼️◼️◼️ ◼️◼️◼️◼️◼️◼️◼️.
▪️To say that the results had wildly surpassed their expectations used to be a boardroom joke. Not anymore.
