NOIR POETRY 365 DAY 011 | POEM #014
[IN A LONELY PLACE]
once again there are flowers
all those arguments
you thought winning
meant something real
beyond clouds passing
ghosts of future rain
white lies you let
fester like mold
on lips bitter gray
kneeling by a new cold bed
searching for what was lost
a vomitorium of stark regret
blooming empty far too late
all you have are flowers now
left to wilt on a grave

“In a Lonely Place” is also the title of a 1950 American film noir by director Nicholas Ray, starring Humphrey Bogart and Gloria Grahame, based on a 1947 novel with the same title by mystery writer Dorothy B. Hughes.
